Kaleido’s Scope

My mondo 250Gb Japanese external hard drive: Compatible. My WACOM drawing tablet: Compatible. My Canon Pixas printer: Compatible. I want to make the switch…now.

The Japanese MacBooks not only have an English support center in Tokyo, but their computers come with an English keyboard option. In that same vein, the English keyboard models can also have their OS language switched to English.

I can pay by bank transfer. They deliver for free. Looks like I might need to hurry up and pay off that credit card, so I can geek out yet again. Maybe by Christmas? Who knows. I’m getting better about controlling my spending, and I am kicking my debt in the teeth now that I am removed from the city and living in a house that I don’t feel trapped in.

Ponder on this I shall.

So, I have renewed my service with Revolution Hosting. Their service is great and the guys who run it are lovely. Unlike when I hosted VuuduuGrrl.com via Yahoo! Geocities, if I ever have billing problems or programming issues, Robert and Bilal have been so wonderful about helping me. I’ve been told that even their basic hosting packages are PHP and MySQL enabled, so I can start my studying and experimenting now. Wiki is also enabled, I just have to do a little set up on my end.

I am clinging to my old netlibrary.com account for dear life. I am making myself blind reading the PHP & MySQL Bible online. I miss the tactile and non-digital quality of "reading" reading. I am hoping the steps Robert gave me plus this magnum of a book will get me on the right track, if not I’ll be begging Bilal and Rusty for their programming prowess to sort my stupid technologically inept self out.

My Wiki will suspiciously look a lot like the one on Digital Alterity because its simplicity of style and variety of content appeals to me. I’ll need a snazzy icon or something. I wonder if they can change colors with a CCS or something. That could be fun.

I shall raise myKaleido.net up from the ashes or at least bring it back from the dead.

New job. New Town. New Loneliness. New Distractions.

I am working on getting my homepage back online. Adjusting to work. Adjusting to being completely alone in my new town. Trying to teach myself HTML (all over again). The same goes fo knitting and crocheting. I am retraining myself to study Japanese, and finally organzing all the files on my computer.

My sister has enticed me with her MacBook. I want one so bad I can taste it. I’ve been a Windows girl as long as I can remember. Will I be able to function if I "make the switch"? I’mm have to do lots of research (and save up the 2 grand I need for sweet black one I saw). My Little Black (Mac)Book. I like the sound of that.

I’m also trying to improve on my photography. After 3 years, I am looking into buying a new (non-Sony) Digital Camera. I’m going back and forth between several models that I saw at Yamada Denki. I want to get the most snap for my buck.

I’m learning to teach all over again as teaching high school and elementary school are so different. Its like taking a pro American football player and shoving them onto a rugby team. Things are similar, but you’ll get your tail whipped if you don’t learn the nuances.

Also, I’ve posted my first video blog on YouTube. Not that many people are looking at it or anything, but I’m proud of it. I need to get more of my friends signed on…. on top of everything else.
