Kaleido’s Scope

Just another piece of me.

Becoming British

I would like to credit three years of living in Japan to indoctrinating me into British culture. Thanks for English colleagues, I’ve picked up lingo, euphamisms, proper tea etiquitte, a liking for football, and exposure to Wimbledon.

I’m now determined to:

- Brush up on my grammar (including American & British English spellings of words).

- Learn more about tea consumation and interactions.

- Understand football, and find a team worthy of supporting. I don’t want to jump on a bandwagon or anything.

- Watch the next World Cup in England in a pub with Guiness and some friends.

- Eat sandwiches, drink Pimms, and watch Wimbledon (preferably at the All England Club).

- Not too sure about Cricket, but I would love to just listen to the commentary (as I’ve been reassured that it ‘very British’ and amusing).

- Doubt it would happen, but see the locations where Harry Potter was taped. Not that it would make me more British, I just want to go.

Ranting Ahead

After two years, my phone’s on the fritz. After my trip to the US, I am trashing the phone and buying a new one.

I love my bank, but they drive me insane. When one has over 50,000 yen in their account, all bills are deducted, there should be no reason why I should receive an error message indicating that I need to speak to a teller about my account. The banks here close at 3PM– while 95% of the working world is still mid-shift. How is that convenient? I had 3,000 yen (about $30 US), a weekend, my period, and I needed to buy maxi pads, gasoline, and food for the goddamned weekend. How is it that I can get my cash from the goddamned convenient store or the supermarker cash machines but I can’t from my own f’n bank?

Assholes.

I also missed the Germany vs. Argentina game. I had plans to head out and actually go to a bar and watch the kick off at midnight, but my f’n alarm clock didn’t go off, so I missed it. 1-1 in OT with a Penalty Kick off– I missed it but all my friends saw it. ;.; Damnit. I better not f’n miss England and Portugal or Brazil vs. France tonight or I am going to break shit.
