Today was a relatively productive day for me. I finally started to map out what I wanted to do with my poor site. It’s like my neopet "Yazuriko", who is probably dead beyond all belief… she’s probably undead by now. I’ve basically decided that I am wasting money by just paying for server space and doing almost nothing with it, as well as shelling out money for livejournal. I have no shame in admitting that I wish I could do the things that that Rusty does with this amazing place. His work here is the basis and inspiration I needed to pursue my creative, electronic endeavours.
However, lacking the programming knowledge, and having the patience of a angry tourist slammed with Montezuma’s revenge waiting in line for a nasty toilet at a canteen in the middle of nowere Mexico, makes it a bit difficult to attempt to step back and try to build something from the ground up… without a fancy scmancy program to do all the work for me.
I was lucky to snag roughy 120 minutes of Mr. Haskewl’s time this evening (on JST), prior to him whisking his gorgeous wife away to forrage for nuts and berries. I enjoy having a programmer friend who can explain intimidating topics like MySQL, PHP, and phpBB to me like I was a five year old WITHOUT sounding condescending in the least.
He pointed me in the right direction just by stepping me through where I needed to go. I have the basics now. I understand how the programmed pages pull information from different tables and build the pages based on the query submitted by the user. I however, have hit another dead end. MySQL database is labeled as "No Priviledges" meaning I cannot create a new database. There has to be something I am overlooking. Well, I can rest easy tonight because I learned something new.
